Welcome to my new blog! On this site I am going to document my travels - and hopefully my eventual moving - to New Zealand.
The idea of living in New Zealand was always appealing to me: New Zealand seems so far away from everywhere else, quaint, beautiful, peaceful, nuclear-free, hassle-free, casually-liberal... So now I am going to make my dream a reality. Here I will write about my pursuit of immigrating there, if possible by the summer of 2008.
Since I never even been there, the first step is to take an actual tour of the islands, in order to see if I even like it there. As possible, I will describe here my upcoming Christmas trip and adventures. If it feels right after this trip, I will dig into the mechanics of what it takes to immigrate to New Zealand, and how the process works for me.
There are many considerations that needs to be evaluated to make this a smooth & successful move, legal, financial, lifestyle, micro-political, social, etc. As I explore them all, you may have a chance to learn about them too. My goal with posting the process as a public forum is to develop a central location for folks who’d like to do the same.
Enjoy, explore the site, and please participate with comments, questions & support.
I am SSSOOOoooOOOoooOOOO jealous! Moving to New Zealand has been on my mind for YEARS! Please, please, oh please let us know every little detail! Honestly, I want to know!
Thanks!

Congratulations on your first baby steps to a life of paradise! I made the move from Arkansas nearly 12 years ago and cannot say how grateful I am to be here in New Zealand. There are many many positives and so very few negatives, I am certain you will be pleased when you arrive and experience the fantastic life you will find here.

Moving out of the country? Nice.
I wish I could.
Since I can't, you suck.
Enjoy the scenery, jerk. I hope that living
in a civilized country floats your boat, hippy.
Take your Zappa CDs.

As a Kiwi who is a reader of yours I would like to welcome you to the country I love and hope that you truly enjoy your trip and find us all friendly, helpful and welcoming. This really is a place of magic and having looked around I would not want to live anywhere else. With only 4 million of us I believe we really bat way above the average - and have fun doing it. Trust me - you are going to love it here. In a small area we nearly have it all. Just soak up the scemery and it will soak into you.
have a ball. Best wishes ................... Neil

Great idea on this blog. I'm in the same shoes as you are right now, and am having trouble finding any reading material by someone who has made the transition. Please keep the posts coming.

I hope you succeed in your venture. We are packing now & leaving for our life in NZ in one months time. All the Kiwis we have met on our frequent trips to NZ are very friendly & hospitable towards my American husband.

I loved the Kiwis I spent several months camping with in Europe, and my awesome boyfriend "Pound Sterling" who stayed at my hotel in Barbados during a summer of surfing. I've always wanted to go to NZ because I've heard so much about its friendly people. I am currently transitioning and hope to visit NZ for a preliminary exploration trip in the near future.
